CTS were a Boston hardcore band that formed out of a bunch of kids that were going to college together. Paul the guitarist was from NJ and played in Tear It Up... we'd played some shows together. He was the only guy I really knew from CTS. He was an awesome guitarist and had a killer knack for doing artwork. He sent me the CTS demo tape, and even though it was about 4 mins in length, I was floored and wanted more. I immediately contacted Paul and asked him to do a 7" on my label. He was into it, and had a clear vision of exactly what he wanted the record to look like and sound like. I gave him pretty much free reign to do whatever he wanted. The record sold out pretty quickly, and I think we pressed between 1,500-2000 copies. I had a really awesome relationship with the band that sparked one 7", a 12" and a 10" on Gloom. Best dudes ever... nicest guys in hc during that time period. This is pure thrash.

I saw Psycho in Albany in 1989 with Sheer Terror and Stigmata. Pretty sure that when I saw Psycho these guys they had lost the singer, and were a three piece perhaps? I recall the drummer by this time was wearing a head phone set with a microphone that allowed him to sing and play drums at the same time. It was a weird thing to see a hardcore band do. I was sorta turned off at first when I saw them setting up, but once they started playing their wacky brand of fierce thrashcore I knew they were awesome. I bought their record at the show due to their speed and tightness. I recall the Troy kids who came to the show sorta standing there and not knowing how to react to Psycho.
After the show my friends who put on the show went to pay the bands, and were short the guarantee that Sheer Terror were promised. S.T. got pissed and started saying stuff like "Why don't we ask your mommy for the money". They got pretty demanding, and if I recall correctly drove my buddies to an ATM so that they could be payed what they were promised. The entire episode was pretty hilarious.
The second song on this tape sounds like a different band(different vox, and poppy sorta). The other songs are killer thrash songs that sorta remind me of Poison Idea vocally.

Moving Targets were from Boston, and played a very melodic style of punk hardcore. The music stayed raw, and very real, and it was hard to believe that such tightness was achieved by a three piece band. The main reason I'm posting this one is because Pat Leonard the bass player and founding member died last week due to complications of head trauma. Sad in that he was only 42 years young. The band put out at least 4 LPs, this one being the first one.
I ended up with this copy of the record about a month ago at Wfmu's record convention. My buddy Charles came over waving it in my face asking me if I had it. I didn't because I sold it in the 90's because I thought it to be to melodic, and wimpy. Only Because I said no I didn't have it, Charles pushed it on me, told me to go home and listen.
I did, and was shocked to hear how much bands like Leatherface took the Moving Targets sound. Its easy to see how far ahead of their time M.T.'s were... I'd say the alternative scene of the early 90's owes these guys some recognition. My favorite song on this record is the last tune "coming home". Enjoy, and please Comment if you download.
