These dudes were from Sweden, and played some fast assed thrash that was quirky and weird. Lots of strange circus sounding jazz parts that most hardcore bands wouldn't have the balls to try, because it wasn't the "norm" within the mostly dogmatic thrash scene. All I can compare the bands weird parts to would be the likes of early Victims Family, Rhythm Pigs, and Die Kreuzen. Some of the reg thrash parts remind me of A.O.D. Its incredible to me even 20 years later that these guys had the ability to play this fast, so tight, and so oddly. Totally different then all the dis stuff from Sweden that everyone has been gushing about for years.
I was turned onto these guys by my older Albany Pal Roger Vandusen. He later sang in a band that I played in. The dude was into lots of German, Swedish, and Finnish stuff. He played me the RTs first release from 1985, and I was automatically searching for the bands other releases. Roger had a humongous European record collection, that most of us were in aw of in the 80's. He became pretty disgusted by punk and hardcore by 1992, and smartly dropped out. I ended up with all his Raped Teenagers stuff. Rog turned me on to so much good stuff. I left off song one, the instrumental, as I had a problem with the transfer. Enjoy.

HADES resisting success LP (1987)

1.the leaders

3.legal tender
4.sweet revenge
5.night stalker
6.resist success
7.widows mite(chapter 11)
8.the cross
9.masque of the red death

I recently bought this at the wfmu record convention because it was cheap, and I was unsure that I still owned it. I store most all of my record collection at my mothers house upstate, so a lot of times I forget what I own. At any rate when my buddy Charles Maggio whom I was working for selling records at the convention saw this LP, he looked on the back cover to show me that one of the members, "Dan Lorenzo" later was Charles sisters soft ball coach. The band was from his home town in N.J. Pretty hilarious and weird as hell.
When one listens to this LP you can hear much of what was happening in the speed metal scene of the 80's for sure. People like to say these guys were a power metal band, whatever. I hear lots of early Death Angel, and even some Overkill in both the song writing and the production. I'd seen both those bands in the 80's, but never saw these bros. live, I'm feeling like I missed out for sure. Most punks will detest this one as there are true metal vocals with awesome high pitched falsetto screams, weird bass lines, acoustic intros and triumphant double bass drumming. I love this shit for sure...great vocals that make me wanna go back and listen to those Overkill records I thought I out grew. This record really makes me feel young again. Thanks Hades. Comment if you download.

07. Don't Bug Me
08. Top 10
09. I Hate
10. They

Also known as D.O.G., these Canadians put out only one record that I know of, and this is it. Fast melodic thrash, with cool lyrics, and catchy riffs. The guitars are totally primitive sounding almost in that Abused/Antidote sort of way. Think of the Abused with the singer from the Asexuals screaming bout everything that bothers him.
My Friend Simon turned me on to them in around 1993 or something like that. My good buddy/band mate Jim DOF was getting married, and Simon stayed with me in my Watervliet apt that weekend. Dude kept trying to trade anything he could for my Infest 7". He played me this obscure 7" on a cassette he had, and I loved it...though I of course did not go for that trade. A few years later I found this killer punk slab for .99 cents at Reptilian records in Baltimore. Tracks 4 and 5 are as one, so when downloading this it will come up as only 9 tracks. Enjoy this jem.

APOCALYPSE earth 7" (1990?)

1.mother...
2.earth
3.heart of man
4.wimp-core

I don't recall to much about these dudes, I guess I need to ask Ben Dropdead, as he put it out on his label "crust records". I can't even find a date on this one. I'm guessing this came out in 1990 or 1991, as it is crust records 1st release. The band was from Walnut Creek California, and played a brutal and raw brand of hardcore-metal that to some could be considered crust, or doomy grind. Regardless metalheads and punks will both enjoy. I think this stuff has a heavy Amebix feel to the recordings, and song writing. Song one and two run into each other, and are one track on the digital end of this.
Ben gave me a copy of this when I stayed with him during an early DOF recording session at Lanes in Boston. The night before we went to go record, Ben and some of the dudes from Grief got obliterated on Tequila at Ben's place. We were staying with him, and he was supposed to accompany us to record, and produce our 1st 12" on his label. I recall sitting at the kitchen table with these guys... some liquid came pouring off of the table. Ben was slumped over with his face on the table. I grabbed him by his hair to see where the liquid was coming from. His goatee was dripping wet. It turned out to be puke dribbling from him as he lay passed out at the table. The next day He was hung over pretty bad, he did not help all that much with his "producing" gig, but that night he gave me a copy of his first release ever, and had already been out of print. Thanks Ben, you are the best.

SPLIT BEAVER s/t 7" (1981)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.savage
2.hound of hell

Split Beaver were from England, and played the classic nwobhm sound. Dudes formed in 1979, and were the winners of a local battle of the bands that supposedly got them some "popularity". The band put out this 7" on Heavy Metal records, plus a LP, then later broke up due to a motorcycle accident that affected the singer. You know the records good when they give a RIP on the back cover to Bon Scott. The guitar solo in "savage" has a very Ac/Dc sorta sound. Musically these guys had a very Tygers Of Pan Tang vibe to em. One of my favorite early metal 7"s. I originally bought a copy of this at records n such in the Albany NY area. I loved the cover, with them posing next to the motorcycle, and a member wearing a motorhead t shirt. I knew this had to be good. I pretty much bought metal 7"s as a way to decide if I needed the bands LP. These had no collector meaning to me back then. They were in some cases used as ash trays, frisbees, and coasters. This record was lost to one of those uses... I recently grabbed it at Wfmu's record convention. I was pretty stoked, and feeling 15 years old again. Comment, my metalheaded friends!

3.Small God, Big Cross
4.Satanic Threat
5.I Ain't Gotta Worship
6.Being Black
7.Cursing At The Cross
8.Don't Follow Him

Okay, Its been a while since I've posted any music on here. Shit has been busy with work, the economy, and some family stuff. I'll try to get some stuff up here for November.
As I've said I rarely put new stuff up on here, but this one is another record I'm proud to have taken part in, as a split release with Hells Headbangers Records. Satanic Threat hail from Ohio, and play hardcore that sounds A LOT like Unity, Uniform Choice, and Minor Threat. featuring a former member of Gordon Solie Motherfckers and Annihilation Time the band brings a Minor Threat-inspired tirade against Christianity, with eight tracks of simple, fast hardcore punk with lyrics that are all fashioned after Minor Threat lyrics, but modified to voice the band's displeasure with religion. Pretty funny stuff. The packaging is pretty over the top as well. Enjoy, and comment, or just say hi.

ANIHILATED created in hate LP (1988)

1.chase the dragon
2.slaughter
3.power is the path/anihilated part 2
4.final dawn
5.nightmare
6.aftermath
7.seventh vial

One can't help but to compare these dudes to early Slayer. The vox are almost completely dead on most the time, and would even spook Tom Arya. England has never really been known or famous for thrash metal. There really are very few good UK thrash bands from the 80's. Grind, death, crust, stenchcore, now that's another story, the UK was crawling with that shit. This really is Slayer worship, done without the hooks that Slayer is famous for. This stuff is much more straightforward then say Slayer. The production is very raw, andsort of lacks that real metal feel that many metalheads need. Has a crossover sort of feel in the production(not the writing or the music)
I bought this record due to the artwork. Its done by comic book artist Simon Bisley. Primitive compared to his later works, but still cool as hell. Wish I still had the bands releases on vinyl format. This is ripped off of my tape copy. The band released a slew of stuff, and formed in 1983, releasing the 1984 demo a year later. The stuff was godly for the time, and always kept my neck snapping. Unfortunately I purged the vinyl in the early 90's.. I was a dumb ass. Enjoy and comment.

CAPITLE demo tape (1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.A.H.
2.error
3.lean on a wall
4.run/fun
5.timing

Man so much I can say about Albany New York's first hardcore band. The first I knew of these guys was the graffiti I saw on the corner of Lark Street and Central ave. This was around 1983..Right there in huge letters on the wall was written Capitle. It was scrawled all over Albany in the early 80's right up til around 1990. I had no idea what it meant, or who the band was in 1983. I thought it was a political statement in regards to Albany (misspelled). I think the next year it was when these guys played Lark fest. Some friends from work and myself went to see the "live music". We saw a few other really crummy bands play outside on Lark street. I had no idea what I was seeing, and don't think I fully grasped what they were doing. I to this day still can't recall much, as we were drunk. It was outside, and the sound sucked. Larkfest was an annual community festival that I think was actually started by the band? I could be wrong, but that is what I recall hearing back in the day. Years later I got the actual demo from the bass player. He played in a band after Capitle called Vertebrae, and "the surge" as we called him would hang out at Erl records, tell us stories, and drink beers with the younger punks. Phil(surge) later moved to California to cook as a chef in prison. The vocalist Jim is still an Albany ficture.
These songs have an odd mixture of early Suicidal Tendencies (the song "error")mixed with some early Agnostic Front or NYCHC mosh arts. I love this stuff, and over the years have accumulated at least 3 copies of the bands demos. Someone really should put this stuff out on vinyl someday... lord knows I'd love to. I only put five of the songs up on here. Hope you dig em.

"Error"
I'm a human
how about you?
I make errors
how about you
I'm not perfect
how about you
I admit when I'm fucked up
I'm a human, humans fuck up
to go through life
and mask your errors
I can't agree with that
don't throw the guilt trip at me
I can't agree with that
I suppose you never made a mistake
Its only human nature

PERSIAN RISK ridin high 7" (1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.ridin high
2.hurt you

OK, I'm going to see Motorhead on Saturday night, so I figure I'd up something on the blog that was related.
Persian Risk formed in 1979 in England by Phil Campbell who has played in Motorhead and Lemmy now for over two decades. Dudes a total hero. I love both of the P.R. singles that I own.
When I bought this at Strawberry's records and tapes on Wolf Road in Colonie NY twenty some years ago I had no idea what I was in for. I was taking a chance and just loved the back cover photo, and the way the band looked. Dudes were wearing spikes and leather, and looked cool in a 1983 sorta way. I was a die hard Maiden fan, so this wasn't all that far off. It made this pimple faced metal kid happy. The guitar playing is great. Campbell plays and chugs away exactly the way one would want one to in the early metal days with his killer hook riffs, and a solo on "hurt you" that reminds me of some fast Eddie Clark noodles. No wonder Lemmy chose Phil for the Motorhead sound! The main riff in "hurt you" also has a Riot Influence. Cool nwobhm stuff that most metal heads rifle right past when taking the headbanging journey into heaviness.

TOXIC SHOCK s/t 7" (1989)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.black death
2.100 mph
3.to the chair

Alrighty then. This one is an obscure metal gem that came out on the punk rock record label Mystic Records. The label put out a lot of crap, but also some pure classics such as RKL, Aggression, Ill Repute, White Pigs, Dr. Know, etc. The label was owned by this old dude named Doug Moody who would record bands in his studio, then put their music out on vinyl. He had a pretty bad rep with some of these bands due to him not paying royalties, and over pressing records. He really had nothing to do with punk other than actually recording this stuff, and paying to put it out and distribute it. He is still alive and in his late 70's.
At any rate towards the end of the labels "career" Mystic decided to try an put out some metal. This band was supposedly from West Mystic CT. though no one I know has ever heard of them playing shows, or anything else for that matter. The 3 song ep is pretty raw sounding, yet standard for the time underground metal, with growling type vocals. I thought of the ep after seeing Villains last night, as the vox were sorta similar. The second song is an instrumental that isn't even close to 100 mph, but is kick ass anyway. This is the type of record that you can prolly find for cheap if you keep your eyes peeled. The production is super low endy and raw with lots of bass.
Bought mine on yellow vinyl at Worlds records in Albany 1990.

CROM & VILLIANS in Brooklyn NY

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
By cryptocomx, shot with DSC-S700 at 2008-09-14

Villains played first. Dudes are a perfect mix of a few styles of aggressive underground metal from Brooklyn NY. I could hear everything from Destructor, Pagan Altars, Poison, and even some Venom at parts. One of my favorite bands I've seen in years. The drummer was a fucking left handed mad man. Total True metal in 2008 without it being cheesy, and with members knowing exactly what what they are doing, and what they want to sound like. I Picked up the "Drenched in the poisons" LP on Nuclear war now last night, shit is amazing. This is the kind of stuff I'd put out in a heart beat if given the chance.

Crom are sick, drunk and sloppy(and from California). Perfectly blending metal and powerviolence antics That kept me bobbing my head throughout the entire set. Lots of beer being spilled, , lots of Slayer riffs, lots of silliness indeed. Both the bands LPs are filled with tons of samples, loops, and metal fun that of course didn't happen live. If they could figure out how to do this, or I'd seen it, I'd be 100% stoked on them live. Glad I saw them, the new LP rules..

R.I.P. Witchunter

According to Sodom's web site the bands original drummer, Chris Dudek (a.k.a. Witchhunter), passed away yesterday (Sunday, September 7). No further details are currently available. He was still pretty young.
My friend Ron played me some of the bands newest LP, that Witchunter appeared on... total bummer. I grew up listening to Sodom, and being shocked at the extreme sound of "sign of evil" when it came out. Witchunter was part of the rawness that helped to fuse the bands early sound.

W.D.M. freedom of music 7" (1988)

1.freedom of music
2.different battlefields
3.confuture
4.communist disease

One of the early Finnish bands i can recall hearing early on in my youth. My buddy Louis made me a Finnish tape with their 1984 ep "democracy?" on it. That record is a total punk rager for sure. They didn't do much more than two or three 7"s that I know of. Kind of an obscure band.
When I later saw this ep I grabbed it up. Actually I've grabbed it up twice. Totally dismissed by most elitist punks due to its metal influences, I love this record, and find it to be a refreshing crossover record from the time period. To hell with the haters, this brings me back. Lots of cool soloing mixed with political lyrics and mostly fast drumming. The record almost reminds me of later Suicidal in some strange ways... can't put my finger on it exactly. My favorite sing is diff battlefields, great guitar riffage.
This is the kind of record you can find in used bins for really cheap. I prolly over paid for this my second copy at WFMU record convention for a mere $3 a few years ago. There are prolly three of us out there who care about this one... fuck it. Great lyrics!

DOM DÄR stench of decay 7" (1991)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.revolution
2.stench of decay

Dom Där were from Sweden, and put out some great records(the first one in around 1983 I think). This is the bands 3rd release. On this ep The band plays a sludgy doomy crust style of hardcore/metal. Its really fucking heavy and depressing sounding. I'd imagine anyone who loves the likes of Amebix, or Hellbastard will go bonkers for this shit. Only two songs on this ep, but they are each almost 6 mins long. The packaging is really cool as the Sleeve folds out into 6-panel poster.
Got this one under the recomendation of a buddy/friend Brian who plays in Dropdead. I recall playing a show with his band, and was going through records at Neil Robinson's record table at abc no rio, and Brian commented on me needing to buy this record, so I did. Thanks Bri.

3.Gonka
4.Tochka Otscheta (instrumental)
5.Doroga V Nikuda
6.Metall
7.Rock N Roll
8.Tsvetnoy Son (instrumental)

Again, this one is for the metallers that read this blog. If your a punk, I can almost guarantee this ones is not for you. Sorry.
The band was from Russia, and the name translates into "August". August formed in 1982, and were always dealing with problems with the USSR government. The Soviet government scrutinized and kept music within certain boundaries of content and artistic creativity.
The music on This LP is a killer attempt at early power metal, that has gone on to influence the likes of Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Nitro, etc. This stuff is over the top with melodic, fast, operatic, classical influenced riffs. If you hate key boards, you'll hate this. Like I said this stuffs not for everyone, and has had people in the metal scene scoffing at them for years. I love it, its over the top and obscure as hell. If you see this bands stuff grab it up, its rare as hell, and barely made it into the States at all.

SOLDIER 7" ep (1982)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.Sheralee
2.Force

Soldier were another of the the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands that was plowing through Britain with little or no popularity in the early 1980s. I'd guess it was partially do to the drummer was the singer, that was sort of a no no for metal bands at least(unless you were Exciter). They were on Heavy Metal records with the likes of Holocaust, Witchfinder General, etc. When I think of Soldier I think of bands like Sabbath, Kiss, Holocaust, Crucifixtion, etc. The song "Sheralee" has that "paranoid" riff that just makes you think, fuck yeah, Sabbath. There are some awesome double leads going on here that remind me of "number of the beast" era Maiden mixed with the hard rocking sound of say Riot.
This stuff is pretty mellow for the most part, Not really one for the punks, though the cover looks kinda punk.
As a kid growing up in the metal scene, I didn't really savior these singles like I should have. I looked at them as pretty disposable ways of deciding if I should search out the bands full length. Many of these records ended up as frisbees, ash trays, and weapons to throw at family members. Luckily this one survives. Below is a postcard that came with the ep.

This is a great find from my tape trading days, with other like minded people from around the globe in the 1980's. It was seriously so cool to trade unknown underground punk and metal bands music with people from other places back then. It was a real connection, and took a serious amount of effort to find these people, and to get the trading to begin. It was cool to think about the fact that there was some German guy sitting in Berlin or some place, who was as obsessed with true underground music as you might be, and that he/she was taping you some band you'd never heard from their region of the world. Looking back, I'd never have guessed that we would be where we are now with technology, the internet, etc. It really has made things like tape trading virtually instinct.
Inferno were of course from West Germany... yup back then East Germany was part of Russia, and the two had not become unified again yet.
Inferno were one of the fastest, loudest, rawest bands from that part of Europe. Its easy to see that both Japanese and Swedes later stole parts of their noisy sound and made it part of their own. The band did a slew of great releases, one of the LPs can be found here in my blog, and the most famous release is the Execute split on Pusmort records. I can recall getting this tape, and just listening to it over and over, wishing that I could understand the lyrics, yet knowing the lyrics were about the same bullshit that I was feeling everyday back then.
I did not include all the songs from this tape, as there were countless jams, and 16 seemed to be enough to throw on here. The stuff sounds pretty awesome considering the tape is over 20 years old. Enjoy.

BATTLEAXE burn this town LP (1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Ready To Deliver
2.Her Mama Told Her
3.Burn This Town
4.Dirty Rocker
5.Overdrive
6.Runnin' Outta Time
7.Battleaxe
8.Starmaker
9.Thor Thunder angel
10.Hands Off

This one ain't for the punks...Some truly amazing New wave of heavy metal from New castle England. The band started out as Warrior and in around in 1981 changed their name to Battleaxe and released a 7" that was also called "burn this town". That is a really tough and expensive single to obtain. What first attracted me to this melodic, yet heavy record was the amazing cover art. The band was embarrassed about it, but somehow let it still come out. Made me buy it... I love the cheese, so bad its really good.
I think if you dig the likes of Holocaust, and maybe early Manowar or Anthrax(fistful era)you'll be blown away by this obscure gem. The production is great, and as I stated earlier, the music is catchy in that Holocaust metal way. Nothing spectacular happening with the vocals, they do what they need to do. Not many high pitched girl screaming here.
I recall hearing this one at my guitar teacher Henry Macfarren's house. He played guitar in a metal band called China White. I was in love with the song "her mama told her", so it was a song I attempted to twang along with for a few months. Skipping school, and trying to figure out bad metal riffs, that was my life. To this day, the song still brings a tear to my eye. Also hooked on the last song, "hands off". Total Tygers Of Pan Tang meets Nugent man.. Fuck yeah.

FOURTEEN OR FIGHT/THE REPOS split 7"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Fourteen Or Fight
1.revenge of the latchkey kids
2.aggressive collector
3.combo amp a go go
4.godless America
The Repos
1.no control
2.one last time
3.fugitive family 2
4.ha ha hardcore
5.alright??!
6.fast decline
7.hollow trees

Okay I put this record out a few years ago. Usually I stick with older stuff on the blog, but I'm pretty proud of this out of print red slab of wax. Both sides sound pretty fucking old any ways.
Fourteen Or Fight were born from the ashes of Chicago's MK Ultra & Charles Bronson. I was familiar with the bands demo because of my tight relationship with then bassist Jon "Jack" Arrends. These guys played pulverizing hardcore punk that went further back into punk roots then either of the mentioned ex bands that these guys were in. Not really thrashy or powerviolence influenced at all... straight up 80's hardcore with a heavy East coast influence.
The Repos I was exposed to by my old room mate Mark McCoy who played me the bands demo. I was pretty blown away, and heard the strong Septic Death influence, mainly in the vocals.
A few years went on when I got a call from Mark telling me that the bands needed help with this split, as they were planning on originally doing it themselves, but could no longer afford it. I jumped at it, as the 14 Or Fight guys were good friends, and I was planning to release an LP buy them(that was recorded, and never came out). I did 1000 of these bad boys, and its been long out of print. Hope you dig it.

PUTRID MASS stripped by flesh demo (1992)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Lacerating necropsy
2.........
3.burrowing thru
4.horribly disfigured
5.little remains

I was pretty into the death metal, and black metal scenes in the early 90's. Was buying everything, and going to see great shows in the NY area. I think the over production of the stuff is what got me to move on and forget about the scene. Everything started sounding completely dogmatic.
Putrid Mass were from the mid west(some place in Michigan I believe). I got turned onto them by the vocalist of my grind band at the time (Monster X). John our singer was into some pretty cool shit, and would tape trade metal/noise demos from all over the world. I ended up with this one.
I think the shitty raw production is what attracts me to this still to this day. It's not about digital sounds and triggers... just straight up gore core. We actually used to jokingly call them Putrid mess, because of the rawness. Black metal fiends will dig this for sure...
To my knowledge the band only diid one other demo, with no proper releases... a true underground band for sure.

JAGUAR axe crazy 7" (1982)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Axe Crazy
2.War Machine

Just look at this cover art... so minimal, yet so brutal and aggressive looking.
Jaguar were yet another of the amazing yet sorta obscure New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands from back in the day. The band got their start in 1979 playing the pub circuit but They never really got big in the U.S.
I was always in love with the "power games" LP, but have a severe love for axe crazy, as it never made it on any of the bands LP's. I recall be sorta shocked a few years ago in hearing that Supposedly Jaguar were Neat records biggest selling ep. They did have a commercial feel to them, but also could bang out some fast ones. If you dig Axe crazy from this ep, you'll love the power games LP that came out the following year. War Machine was a song from their 1980 demo that they re did for the 7". Starts off melodic, with acoustic guitars, but kicks in pretty good. You can hear some early Di'anno Maiden in this one... I mean note for note.
Again, I collected some of these metal 7"s as a youngster in high school, but my mother tossed some out, I also tossed some out when I was going through my anti metal phase. Don't worry, it only lasted a year or two (when I discovered punk). At any rate its had me re buying the stuff for the last few years.
If you love the first two Maiden records, This Jaguar ep will not disappoint.

7.Start Counting
8.Living For Memories

This is this U.K. bands third full length. The band was playing the nwobhm when most metal bands were still being toilet trained, as they had originally formed in 1976. In some aspects it boggles my mind that the band wasn't able to do any real type of progression between all their early records, in another aspect I can sorta respect that. You won't be able to listen to this album with out comparing the vocals to both Rob Halford, and King Diamond. Lots of high pitched notes screaming about sorcery, satan, & dragons here. Musically it has parts that remind me of early Scorps(in trance era, specially the tune "rock n roll"). I've had this record forever on vinyl as it was a high school sweetheart of mine, but I just scored this copy of it on picture disk, and I think it looks really cool.
I've been on a Witchfynde kick lately probably due to me loving this style of metal a lot again these days, but also because I'll be seeing the mighty Judas Priest in 10 days, and like I said vocally these guys remind me of stuff like that. Listening to this record always gives me a feeling of solid nostalgia. Enjoy.

This is one of the greatest japanese 7" masterpieces ever! In 1987 I had little knowledge of what was happening in the Japanese punk hardcore scene. I was still digging crossover, and lots of silly straightedge stuff.
By 1989 my friend Louis Jakobs was blasting this shit for me on a daily basis. At first I had no understanding or love for the stuff, but after several mixed tapes, and him blasting Japanese hardcore from his little red Toyota truck I became hooked. By the time I started looking for these releases, they were already hard to find. Japanese stuff did not sit on store shelves for long(if you were lucky to know a store that even sold it). The only store I could find any of it at was Albany's Erl records. When Louis decided he'd had enough, he dumped his collection at a store out in NJ that was co owned by Charles Maggio. The stuff they bought from Louis was insane....practically every Japanese release from the 80's. When Louis moved to Jersey, he would come back and visit frequently, one day he brought this record to me, and told me to enjoy it. Dude was awesome...this record is god! Enjoy...comment please.

RkL were one of the most important bands to me at a certain point & time in my life. The time was around 1986, when I was 19 years young, screwed up on anything that could get me off, and punk rock as fuck! The music, the lyrics, the artwork all spoke to me in ways other bands or music never had. I lived and breathed this shit.
I can recall seeing these guys play the Farm, the Stone, the Mab, the On Broadway, Ruthies Inn, shit... even the Oakland Omni. It's So depressing to think about the fact that two of the dudes are now dead from Drugs. Both Jason, and Bomer died a few years ago...a tremendous loss of life.
I'd hung out with these guys on Haight Street, ate at the soup kitchen with them, drove around in the rkl van looking for drugs and a gig, and even had a chance to try out as a bass player for them. To see this band of young kids perform in the mid 80's sent shivers down my spine at the time. They were all over the stage, and doing amazing jumps in the air while playing flawlessly.
I'm one of these Rkl fans with a tattoo, and who still believes in the first 3 records being equally as awesome as the next one. I really miss these guys, and those times. This post makes me sad, but at the same time really makes me remember my friends like Zoran, Kurt, Kenny, and Michael Roy. Hope you dig this.
