Okay, this post is a bit off the regular beat and path of my blog...
Years before Doug Moody started dipping his dick in early American hardcore/punk with his Mystic Records label, he was putting out records by metal, and hardrock bands. He used his Azra Record Label to put this stuff out. Centaurus were from Sunny California and played hardrock that was definetly influenced by the likes of early Van Halen, B.O.C., Deep Purple, etc. I think the fact the one of the band members on the back cover was wearing a Jaguar shirt got me to buy this LP. I was disappointed for sure back then, because they sounded nothing like the nwobhm sound that I was digging on. It took me some time to warm up to this one for sure. I'm sorta doubting that to many punks, and very few metal heads will dig this one, as its a obscure hardrock record much in the vein of say early Riot that just plain rocks.

  3. wait thats not the same Azra Recs that put out early Dark Angel, Overkill, Intruder stuff is it? you know the label that put out all the crazy shaped 7" pic discs.

  4. nope. this label was around about 10 years prior, and was most likely dead by the time the one you are thinking of started up. Axe Master, Liege Lord, etc were on the Azra you are thinking of.

  5. ok, that makes sense. its hard to keep up with all the Doug Moody stuff. he even put out some stuff here in Nashville too - one of the Rednecks In Pain 7"s, some Nashville/Tenn comp called Opry Outcasts or somethin.

  6. No NWOBHM, but even though there are 3 songs that remind me a bit of Angel Witch, but older I think, vocals are a bit like Glen Hughes from Purple sometimes. Those songs are "In the Mood", "Cold Emotion" and "You shake me", The rest is 70's hard rock, and some weird instrumental cuts. It's good, not my type of album, but It was good listening to it.

    Cheers!

  9. Yeah, I mean maybe Angel Witch have a lot more fresh and younger sound because it was another time, but I think that aside from bands like purple, sabbath, priest, etc, maybe bands like this one could have been influential for that kind of sound too.

    Thanks for the post Nate

    Cheers!!!

  11. I can see how you think of Riot on this. The vocals have that Guy sound to them.

  15. I got the chance to listen to this record just a while ago and i really enjoyed it. I a metal head but from time to time I enjoy a little hardrock for a change, and this band is pretty cool.
