Anyone that has followed this blog over the decade that its existed knows of my odd love of German 80's hardcore.  I was turned onto a lot of it by two Germans who spent time in SF hanging with my buddy Zoran and I in around 86-87.  After they left back to Germany I'd get random mixed tapes of obscure German hc in the mail.
This is one of those bands I was turned onto by these guys.  I had to work pretty hard to find the actual vinyl of it back then.
Pretty raging thrashy hardcore that at times remind me of the almighty Black Flag (check out the song Last Mistake).
Listening to this one brings back many happy memories.  Enjoy!

DISCHARGE-Live at the Farm in S.F. Sept 7th 1986(getting heckeled))

This tape being uncovered I owe to my friend Kevin 'O who I gave the only copy to well over twenty years ago.  He was nice enough to save it, and recently sent it back to me.  My guess is that if I would have kept it, it would be lost in a sea of tapes, or given away to someone else.  I wish I still had the Possessed, and A.A. sets from the gig on tape... they are lost in a sea of tapes for sure. 
The tape is from 1986 at the Farm in SF.  It was the last show Discharge played after touring the U.S.A. on a their sell out LP.   I had no idea that they had put out a bad record, and were touring on it, so me hearing them sounding like this was a complete shock.  I was ready to hear the classic Discharge... I can be heard talking to another dude standing next to me about how they sound worse then Ratt, and wondering if anyone from the Orig lineup is even in the band.  They really were horrible, and within the first song you can hear the crowd chanting fuck you.  Within 10 mins in they give up playing, and for the next 30 mins, random dudes come out on stage to yell at the crowd, and tell them the cops are coming, and that we are closed minded assholes.  Andy Anderson(Attitude Adjustment), and Scotty Verbal Abuse are some of the randoms talking the crowd down.  Seriously a great memory.  The entire farm chanting DRI, DRI, DRI, DRI...In hopes that DRI who had opened would come back out and play.  Turns out that when Discharge came back out to give it another go, DRI walked up with a trash can full of garbage and threw it at the band.  Members of the band were actually crying because of the reaction.  Years later My friend Jim MacNaughton told me he saw them at La'Mar or something in NY, and the same thing happened.  That would have been at the beginning of the tour.  Hard to believe they toured like this. The recording was done on a little walkmen type tape player, but sounds awesome.  There are only a few songs played, most the time of this tape is the great banter by roadies, and SF scene dudes.  Pretty sure nothing else in the world exists like this. This is a band that while I was living in S.F. I think many of us took for granted, because they played shows in the Bay Area all the time. I saw these guys a lot, seemed like they were on every show. Sometimes I wasn't even paying attention to them. They always sorta reminded me of a younger, poor mans Adolescents. I bought the 12" before actually ever seeing them. The reason I bought it was because I noticed there was a song titled "fight back". I was pretty sure this must be a cover of the Discharge song with the same name. Nope, not even close. I was pretty closed minded at this point in my life, and really just wanted loud and fast, so this 12" sorta let me down when i plunked the needle down on the platter. It took me years to rediscover this. Its great.. melodic, and catchy as fuck punk rock. Pretty sure these guys were from San Jose(although the addy on the back jacket is from somewhere else). It was produced by someone from the Faction(not Steve C). Enjoy.

Fuck yeah... picked this tastey plater up for under $5 bucks recently. It is a record I've been looking to replace because my og is pretty beat. I Bought my copy at the record vault on Polk street in S.F.(The best store ever). I recall my friend Zoran and I went to get King Diamonds autograph, because he was doing an instore at the vault. We were both shocked at how down to earth and short the master of satanic metal was. At any rate that day I left the store with a King Diamond demo tape, his autograph on my Steve Caballero deck, and a copy of this overlooked crossover Hardcore classic.
Out Of Order were one of the early of the Chicago bands I'd heard back then along with Life's Sentence, the Effigies, and Articles Of Faith.
When I listen back to this I can hear lots of Negative Approach, early Sick Of It All, and even some Crumbsuckers. Its really an awesome and tough sounding hardcore record. I wish I'd gotten to see these boys live.

I've done a lot of French music bashing on the site in the past, so I figured I'd make up for it by adding this killer thrash split ep. Both of these bands played blistering fast punk that we called thrash back in the day(before the word became over used and corny as hell). I really don't know jack about the bands, other than they started in the early 80's, and both put out a slew of records, and tapes.
What I can tell you is that I was turned onto this one by an old friend/band mate from the Romper Room Rejects. Michael R. was a French immigrant who was living in S.F. illegally in the mid 80's. /he was a house painter, and a punk rock bassist who turned me onto some cool European punk music in 1987-88. I've been wondering what happened to my friend for well over 20 years now.

These dirtheads were from Chicago, and played metal that was sort of in between that old traditional heavy metal sound(power metal, or nwobhm), and speed metal. I think there were a fair amount of these bands from the mid 1980's, that found in order for them to survive in what was happening in the metal scene(speed metal/thrash), that they needed to push the envelope a bit more. They needed to play faster, and heavier, changing their sound a little to fit in, or appeal to the youth. In my opinion Damien Thorne were one of those bands. Its awesome because it works well. I think Exciter, and Manowar were guilty of this as well.
I picked this up because of the band name, and the very cool cover art. The name Damien Thorne was that of the son of Satan in the infamous Omen books.
I read these before seeing the movies in around 8th grade. I recall being pretty disappointed by this record because it was to traditional sounding, and didn't have the punk/HC influence that I was now searching for when it came to metal/crossover. Years later I rediscovered it, and realized how much I loved traditional HM.
The Vocals are the stand out for me. They almost have a Rhett Forester sound to them(yup, Riot motherfuckers). The difference would be the high pitched screams that these guys pull off. Enjoy and comment.

I was turned on to this band by my neighbor/friend Eric Meade when I lived in San Francisco, back in the mid 1980's. Eric turned me on to so much in the way of obscure music back then. He was one of the most open minded people I'd ever met.
I think I heard the LP first, and then later mail ordered this ep from the band directly(thanks MRR). These guys played some Some pretty Brutal crossover, that I could relate to in every way. It was a great merging of metal and punk. Listening back its so ahead of its time. This records been with me a long time now. The band was always pretty obscure, and really under-rated hailing from Chicago. The vocals are pretty harsh sounding considering the time period. Back in the 80's it was sort of a no brainer that a 7" was worth picking up if it had 8 or more songs on it. Still hard to believe that I used to order 7"s for $2.50ppd. Where have all the good times gone?

BP stood for Belching Penguins. Not the best name in the world, but worth a scoff and chuckle when you'd heard it slide off the tongue. Ridiculous and silly names were sorta the thing back then. These dudes were from Florida, and were as equally involved in building the scene there as their buddies No Fraud, and Pagan Faith. No fraud were prolly bigger, and definitely a bit more popular outside of Florida, but BP had a huge following as well locally. Both bands put their records out on No Clubs! Records.
This is one of those records that when it came out, and you were in the record shop looking at the cover(one of the coolest punk covers ever)... You flipped it over and saw that there were 18 songs, and you knew right then that you needed to buy this thrasher. The songs were fast and sloppy with yup silly and ridiculous song titles and lyrics.
I remember hearing the first song, with the drums, and the ride cymbal it just made me want to smash shit up. I wish I'd gotten to see these bros, it must have been a trip.

I saw Psycho in Albany in 1989 with Sheer Terror and Stigmata. Pretty sure that when I saw Psycho these guys they had lost the singer, and were a three piece perhaps? I recall the drummer by this time was wearing a head phone set with a microphone that allowed him to sing and play drums at the same time. It was a weird thing to see a hardcore band do. I was sorta turned off at first when I saw them setting up, but once they started playing their wacky brand of fierce thrashcore I knew they were awesome. I bought their record at the show due to their speed and tightness. I recall the Troy kids who came to the show sorta standing there and not knowing how to react to Psycho.
After the show my friends who put on the show went to pay the bands, and were short the guarantee that Sheer Terror were promised. S.T. got pissed and started saying stuff like "Why don't we ask your mommy for the money". They got pretty demanding, and if I recall correctly drove my buddies to an ATM so that they could be payed what they were promised. The entire episode was pretty hilarious.
The second song on this tape sounds like a different band(different vox, and poppy sorta). The other songs are killer thrash songs that sorta remind me of Poison Idea vocally.

My wife and I have recently been looking at perhaps moving from Brooklyn NY to the wonderful state of NJ. I figured I'd pay some respect to the godawful state of NJ on this wonderful 4th of July by posting some bad, yet obscure NJ hardcore.
Seriously though... I now know where West Orange is because we looked at houses there, and the address where this 12" was recorded was in an area I'd recently been while driving around.
I just got a copy of this record after selling all my Bedlam stuff in the early 1990's, due to some song they had about A.i.d.s. Yup, I was sort of a pc dickhead for sure. The song was stupid, and isn't on this record, so I have no idea what I was thinking. I guess I took my hardcore pretty seriously back then.
I first heard these guys in maybe 1986, when a neighbor/friend in San Fran named Eric Meade made me the best mix tape I think I've ever heard. The tape featured at least 4 songs each by the likes of Jerrys Kids, CIA, Reagan Youth, the Bad Brains, FU's, Sacred Denial(the good LP songs), 76% Uncertain, Void, Beastie Boys, SSD, and yup... Bedlam. I liked the band for their dirgy style, and the harsh production that you could tell was recorded and mixed by someone that had no idea what to do with the bands sound, so hey, lets add some reverb!
This record has everything you need, fast parts, slow mosh parts, and some weird psych stuff mixed in as well.
I hadn't seen this Friend Eric in almost 20 years, and was wondering about what ever happened to him. I went to Amoeba Records with my pal Matt Average, and Average starts asking me, "hey man, wasn't that guy in C2D"? I looked and was like...holy shit!!! I walked up and asked him if he used to live off of Fell street in S.F, and told him who I was. It was so weird, and very cool. Eric had really made a huge impact on me 20 years earlier, and I'd been wanting to tell him that.

Flitox were an average French punk band. France has never really been all to known for having the best music come out of the country. This is the bands debut record. They put out a LP that was good as well. Mid paced, Catchy L.A. sounding punk, with lots of melodic guitar leads is how I'd describe the bands sound. I don't think I'd ever had discovered this record if it weren't for my band mate/friend Michael Roy. Michael was a French punk who was living in the states illegally in 1986-88, working construction/painting houses. My buddy Zoran met him at a show, and brought him back to my apt in S.F. to try out as bassist in our band the Romper Room Rejects. When I told Michael that I'd never heard any good French punk, he somehow came up with this record for me, bringing it over to my pad for me to listen to. After I acknowledged that there might be a few ok French punk bands, my buddy told me I could keep the record. It is hard to believe that its been with me for 23 years now. I have no idea what happened to Mr. Roy, I haven't heard from or seen him in over 20 years. Cheers my friend!
