I had a long relationship with the dudes from 9 Shocks Terror. I first saw them at a radio show that my buddy Jim MacNaughton did at WRPI in Troy NY. The band didn't have any records out yet, but were traveling with an all female Japanese hc band called the Gaia. I was completely blown away by the ferocity that 9 Shocks provided at the show played to maybe 8 of us. The dudes were as old as I was, and still beat on their equipment like they hated everything and everyone. They gave me hope. I asked them to do a split with my band Devoid Of Faith... and they were into it. later on I'd asked them about this split as I'd become good friends with Mike from the Killers. Both bands were into the idea, and were really stoked at the idea I had to have Pushead do the cover art. I was talking a lot with him back then because he was doing DOF art, rex, etc. He was into the idea of doing the art, and I was shocked when he gave the okay for Mike(the killers)to do the back cover. Mike did a really good Pushead back then. After putting the two in touch with each other a relationship was born. This one didn't take as long to come out as most people would have expected. I did 3000, 1000 on blue, one thousand on green and 1000 on orange.

  2. I like the back cover better than the front. That's a nice piece of art.

  5. Would be interesting if you could write a bit about the DOF/Voorhees split LP.
I think this is my favourite DOF material. total AF and NA worship, without sounding corny or trite ...just solid, brutal, modern hardcore.
The Voorhees side is also amazing...some of their best material after some of their lukewarm releases in the second half of the 1990s.

  6. Martin... that is also my favorite stuff. The songs are total af worship. I recall that during this session Jim had sorta pretty much hung stuff up. He was tired of hc and ready for a change. We knew that the record was to be our last recording. It was the first time that after a session everyone sorta left, and I was left to mix the record alone with the engineeer. Usually Jim had been very hands on... not this time. As soon as the vox were done he split with everyone else.
I wish that the pushead 10" had come out this good.

  7. Thanks for the details, Nate.
Interesting to hear how it was produced. To me that record is a modern-day classic. When I think of the time this was released so many memories come back. The internet was not as widely used as nowadays, and one didn't get that short, instant gratification that downloading records has. Also, bands that were not part of the hardcore mainstream of the 1990s (stuff like Snapcase, Earth Crisis) were really quite diverse, in the sense that they were inspired by the past, but were not just bad copycats. There was still a lof of space for local sounds. They really managed to refresh, and develop that classic hc sound. Their records were much more diverse and interesting than the bands of the retro//trash/eighties reenactment wave that followed in the early 2000s; most of those were quite uninspired, boring and unoriginal.

  9. hello Mr Wilson. this record is said by many to be the worst 9 shox record ever, which kinda bums me out for 2 reasons. 1st, you went thru HELL to get the recordings & have Pussyhead finally finish the artwork almost a year after the tapes were given to you. 2nd, i wrote over half of the music for this record. i always did my best to arragne parts or bang out a quick bridge for 9shox/h100s songs when other members were at a loss on how to go from 1 part to another, but this one i actually sat down & showed Tony what i had written specifically on my beat-up bass and we just went from there with showing the rest of the band...but im still VERY proud of this record. and you always did us ACE on deals, hospitality, etc. and im still very happy to call you a Friend all these years later. you are seriously one of the Best & Greatest people ive ever had the pleasure of meeting & spending good times with during my time on this wretched planet...

  10. I def don't think its the worst. The fact that this band continued without you was sorta mind blowing to many of us that knew of the band early on. I think the 7" that came out of Europe was the real weak link in the discography.
Thanks for the kind words Wedge. You are one of the kindest funniest guys i ever met.
