Okay I put this record out a few years ago. Usually I stick with older stuff on the blog, but I'm pretty proud of this out of print red slab of wax. Both sides sound pretty fucking old any ways.
Fourteen Or Fight were born from the ashes of Chicago's MK Ultra & Charles Bronson. I was familiar with the bands demo because of my tight relationship with then bassist Jon "Jack" Arrends. These guys played pulverizing hardcore punk that went further back into punk roots then either of the mentioned ex bands that these guys were in. Not really thrashy or powerviolence influenced at all... straight up 80's hardcore with a heavy East coast influence.
The Repos I was exposed to by my old room mate Mark McCoy who played me the bands demo. I was pretty blown away, and heard the strong Septic Death influence, mainly in the vocals.
A few years went on when I got a call from Mark telling me that the bands needed help with this split, as they were planning on originally doing it themselves, but could no longer afford it. I jumped at it, as the 14 Or Fight guys were good friends, and I was planning to release an LP buy them(that was recorded, and never came out). I did 1000 of these bad boys, and its been long out of print. Hope you dig it.

  6. Great fucking split. I only got to see the Repos play their last show in Madison where I picked up their last LP and a Failures shirt. Why was the 14oF LP abandoned?

  7. if I recall correctly, the singer Frank who also sang in MK Ultra moved to Arizona with his wife. I could be wrong...
Jon the bass player also moved away to Wisconsin.
The record was abandoned due to geography, and people getting older and becoming more responsible.
I think the vox needed to be layed down, but the music was all done.

  8. Uncle Nate,
you are exactly right about the 14Or Fight LP. the music was tracked, but Frank moved to AZ so the vocals never got recorded. in fact, for the last 2 years i have been trying to convince Jon to let me go in and do the vocal tracks just so the damn thing can come out!

i have heard the music and it is great. the original tapes are still sitting on a shelf in the studio that it was recorded at in chicago.

  10. not true, the Fourteen or Fight songs were never recorded. we just ran out of steam.

Kirk, as you know, none of the bands i've ever fronted have been fan favorites but we're certifiable as cult bands.

  13. After reading and interview with the Repos in MMR (I think) I ordered their 12"... IMMEDIATELY! And it kicked my ass. Jerry's Kids cover, very appropriate to their style. I was super-excited to see this here, as I actually never bought this (sorry Nate).

In other news, for Frank, when I was in AZ this summer, my friend John Q mentioned that he was going to be working on a new band with you and others. This, I thought, was also very exciting.

yes, i am working on a band with Q of Fifteen "fame". we have like 4 songs- less hardcore and more first wave classic punk-ish i guess? just for fun, so far.
