Albany definitely had it going on back then. We would drive from CT. to go to shows there. the fliers bring back the memories thanks ---------gary-------
Brain Tattoo were a local Albany Band that featured Roger Vandusen (later of Intent) on Vox. Also Tony Trehan on drums... dude went on to play in some Telfian bands(Conniption). Brain Tattoo had a demo, I need to try an find it in my collection.
The only way Dave Stein (the promoter back then)could get Albany kids to go see a band like No Means No in those days was to book them with a bunch of NYC style bands. kids in Albany were "hard". He did that with so many shows... It was really brilliant actually. SNFU is another show I recall him doing this at as well.
Nate, I have a few things. Not sure about Brain Tattoo. I did find a off-the-board recording of No Outlet / Breakdown / Side by Side / Gorilla Biscuits / Slapshot playing the AOH Albany in 1987.
I sent a video I took of Terrorcake back in 1991 to Sue Paul, not sure if she's gotten a chance to review and post that yet.
Was thinking about digitizing it and uploading as an .mp3 when I get the chance. I have no idea if it sounds good or what, and it needs to be edited, it's on two casettes. We can definitely work on this, but I will need to do a little engineering on it to make it happen.

ReplyDeletedid you know any Albany people?
Roger V, Dave Stein, Sam, the O'tools, Steve reddy?
Who would you come down with? We would come to Danbury CT to hit up the Anthrax as well.
Nate
Holy shit, Nomeansno and Breakdown, what a completely random gig. What was up with Brain Tattoo? I like that name.

I saw two of those shows!
ReplyDeleteThat Nomeansno show was out freakin' standing. Same when SNFU played the 288 venue that same year.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing Nomeansno, my brother says I talked about playing bass guitar as soon as I got home. June 13, 1987 - I was still fifteen at the time.
When I get the chance, I will scan some of my old Albany flyers and send them in.
Adamdo you have the Brain Tattoo demo? Any othe local demos from back then?

What's up guys it's Mike J here. Before I abandoned my mp3 blog two years ago for lack of time, I posted the Brain Tattoo demo. Find it here.
