This post is inspired by a comment(and e mail conversations)I had with scab R.K.L. bassist "Ricky", who played with the band after Vince and before Joe. Ricky informed me that he also helped form and played with Stalag 13, but left right before they recorded the 12".
This got me thinking about the record, and pursued me to listen to it again after more then a decade.
I think Its easy to tell they were influenced by 7 Seconds, and Minor Threat. Its also easy to tell that Uniform Choice must have been pretty influenced by Stalag 13. You know, The vocals being sung in that high pitched screaming manner, with the catchy, melodic, fast music just brings it all together.
I own two copies of this nowadays, but I bought my original copy at the Record Vault on Polk street in S.F. This was a record that Andy from Attitude Adjustment pushed on me. It didn't take much to push, I was already into the cover art work. I had no idea who the Hernandez Bros. were back then, so this was my introduction to their cartoony comic book style of art. I went on to follow their careers in the comic book industry, and their book "Love and Rockets" pretty much turned me on to other underground, or more Adult themed comics.

  2. Yeah I never listened to them back in the day, but they are obviously influenced by Minor Threat/7 Seconds, which is not a bad lineage. Great rip! Thanks!

  4. Great post, thanks. I love this record. When I took a silk-screening class in high school, this LP's cover was the second shirt I made (the first being the Motorhead logo). This was 1987 and up until 1 year ago I still owned that shirt. Listening to this made me wish I hadn't cleaned out my basement.

  5. I'm going to listen to this Stalag 13, then listen to some Stalaggh brand "audio terror". Because variety is the spice of life.

    Thanks for this.

  10. a very rare amount of these came with hand typed inner sleeves. i think they typed up some and then gave up. "Black and Grey" is definitely the hit. Missed these guys as a child. The skating skull had me hooked at a very young age.

  18. Ricky here again. Just wanted to clarify per our conversation. I played in Stalag 13 in 82-83 and play bass on the demo before In Control came out. But the band was formed by Ron and was around for a few years before I joined. I didn't help form them. Peace out

  19. I also played in RKL before Vince did in 83 for a short time. Then in 86 to 87 again in RKL, Though because of my fallout with the band they have not acknowledged it. Still love both bands regardless of drama

  20. A couple of other interesting facts about Stalag 13. Our unreleased demo was recorded by Darryl Kutz from the band Starbuck. LOL. They had the 70's radio hit "Moonlight Feels Right.". Darryl was the Father of Ron's girlfriend, Davie Kutz. Also, Dave Casillas, who played guitar on In Control later joined NOFX and recorded, I believe, 2 records "Liberal Animation" and " The PMRC can suck on this.". As well as a few comps. Great guitar player and a dear friend.
