Not that Slipknot dummy! These guys were the real deal, playing punishing aggressive hardcore with a VERY early C.O.C. influence. I mean STRONG! Even to the point where they are a three piece, and the bassist sings. Elitist hc types might chuckle about this band, but thats because they probably discounted listening to them due to the band putting out their only release on Rev. The label was known, and famous in the late 80's for putting out straightedge hardcore that didn't waver in attitude or sound all that much. They were pretty much responsible for being behind a really bad East coast hc/punk scene in 1988-90. This record was an early rev release, but has a completely different sound mixing C.O.C. with West coast bands like Infest. When this came out many people were disappointed, and probably didn't give this wax a spin. Shit rages hard.
I was Straight edge at this time, but not really very typical in what I listened to, or how I reacted to other peoples choices. My friends weren't straight. I recall seeing this ep at Erl records in Albany NY with my buddy Louis. We scoffing at the cover, looking at the back cover, then reading the insert. I eventually bought this only because the band thanked bong hits & brew hahs, I was baffled that this came out on the label that it did, not typical at all. Listening to this totally brings back those memories Of Luke picking me up Friday after work, and us hitting all four record stores in Albany. I typically might have spent about $80 a week on records back then. Enjoy, and comment please. I think you'll be stoked on how well this record has aged.

  12. WHOA! this is such a similar experience. 1) I got this record from ERL records in Albany. 2) I was straight edge at the time, and bought this mainly because of the label AND the funny stuff in the liner notes. 3) I spent ALOT of money at all 4 record stores in Albany - (I would often not eat breakfast or lunch all week just to save $ for the Saturday record binge.)

This record opened up my ears to new and various sounds. THANK FOR THE POST & keep it up.

    1. Dude, I know that your comment is old, but I just found out about this band today, and I haven't had a chance to really listen to them, but seriously, go fuck yourself, with a knife also. Who the fuck cares what people are listening to? This Slipknot came out before the one basically everyone knows today. I like them yes, and I don't give a shit if theres a band with another name as them and I don't think the nu-metal Slipknot copied these guys. So please, just shut the fuck up, because no one here needs your negativity.

  14. Despite liking a lot of that early Rev shit, you are correct. This EP rages and it always was a bit of a weird black eye on the catalog. But that's the reason it tears it up. authentic.

  15. Yeah, I would have avoided this like the plague exactly because it was on Revelation! Thanks again!

  16. i bought this 7" solely on the fact that they were on Revelation. me too, i was straightedge then. and i sold it cause they were nothing like the other Rev bands. and my copy was on red wax. so i guess i'm the real loser, eh?

  17. When this first came out, the little Rev catalog insert described it as "early COC meets early COC."

I remember there being some confusion with the Albany jam band Slipknot, who did Grateful Dead covers.

"Slipknot are playing next week! Wait, never mind, wrong Slipknot..."

  20. I will listen to this shortly, but first I have to say that I thought it was the Slipknot we all know today, I thought Slipknots name was made up by them now I know that is not true.

  21. Definitely, this one the best post do I ever read before. I just want to said, thank you. I love the band, Slipknot is my entire life and I would give my heart for them. Great, this blog is great, I don't have words to explain it.

  22. When I first found this on the internet 2 years ago, I thought it was some completely forgotten chapter in the history of (Iowa's) Slipknot. I was a little put off by the quality of the sound though.

After doing some research, it makes sense now, being an early vinyl release from an independent label, the mastering would have pushed the limits of the analog format. Additionally, it has been digitally recorded and converted to mp3, most likely in a manner that does not exactly produce optimal quality.

I'm a fan of (Iowa's) Slipknot, but I think the asshats saying this isn't "REAL SLIPKNOT" are just ignorant. It's two different bands, and this one happens to be defunct anyway, so why waste your time bashing them? If you really want to get technical, these guys predated "real" Slipknot but a whole decade, so how are they NOT the original? (And admit it, you didn't know about them before '99 even if they had been active for 4 years at that point.)

This is is an interesting listen, so swallow your fanboy pride and take it with an open mind. You might be surprised.

Oh, and by the way, there's a European prog. rock band called "Nirvana" who were recording in '67. There's no law against having the same name as another band. It just doesn't work well if both are active at the same time.

  23. I bought this when it came out and didnt have very high hopes for it. But after I played it I was surprised as hell..I thought it was close to Citizens Arrest intensity!! When the Nu Metal band Slipknot came out ..I thought it was the same band.
