BLACK AXE highway rider 7"(1980)
01.highway rider
02.red lights
These guys formed in the late 70's under the name Leviathan. The NWOBHM band were formed in England, and They changed their name when they recorded this ep. This is the only release under this name, although they once again changed their name, this time to Wolf for the release of an LP in which I don't think actually ever came out.
This 7" is awesome, and will keep your head bopping along. I lucked into this ep again totally accidentally(or rather just took a chance). Pretty obscure stuff, this rarity will not disappoint. Enjoy and comment please!

I was a little bit too young to ever hear most of the early NWOBHM bands, but i remember seein this as i would flip through vinyl at Back Door Records - the ONLY good record store in upper East Tenn. always thought the title was "Highway Rider With Red Lights", as opposed to "Highway Rider" with "Red Lights". HA.
ReplyDeletei'm with jbm. I was way to young to "get this" when the stuff came out, but man I really can understand how older peops got it when it was happening.
ReplyDeleteit seems like there were massive amounts of these bands
Wolf did release an album. Pretty good UFO style Hard rock/Metal. It came out on Mausoleum.

ReplyDeleteAwesome songs! Much better than most of the more famous act! Thanks dude!
ReplyDeleteNate! rad - totally rocking the nwobhm these days...so this is a treat!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Wolf 7''and the LP that followed this one are great. In fact there was another NWOBHM act called Wolf (from Cheshire) with the killer 7''See them Running. Here is the link:http://rapidshare.com/files/251117628/Wolf__Cheshire__UK__-_See_Them_Running__7-inch_.rar
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you that 'Highway Rider' is truly a great track. As are the rest of the tracks off the album.
ReplyDeleteJust for your information, i work with the lead singer 'Chris English'. He still lives in Carlisle where the band was formed, but alas he doesn't sing with a band anymore. He got very disallusioned when Chrysalis dropped them, even changing there name to Wolf.
Hails! Just ran across this blog and nearly shit myself. I have been looking for this NWOBHM and early metal for years. Thanks for posting and making my day.
ReplyDeleteActually discovered these guys through a heavy metal show on Swedish public radio a couple of years ago, was driving at night and the song Red Lights was so friggin awesome that I almost drove off the road :)
ReplyDeletethanks.
