I've posted Fang's Landshark LP on here in the past. This one is the bands 2nd LP, and almost as good, coming out a year after Landshark in 1983. The Band formed in around 1980, and put out a 7" that predates the LPs. I wish I had that one.
I sold this LP years ago, When I became disgusted with SammyTown's past(his conviction for the murder of his girlfriend in 1989). I Recently bought it again from a store in Oregon. Sammy was a Junkie going back years and years in S.F./Berkely area. Looking back I really am glad I got to see these guys in the mid 80's with my Buddy Zoran Theodorovic. We loved getting wasted, skating, and watching Fang play badly at random clubs in the bay area. It really is amazing to listen to both the bands first records, and to hear the major impact and influence it had on Kurt Cobain. The guitar playing is brilliant on the records. Weird and pretty experimental for the time period.
Living in the Bay area in the 80's was insane. Both the metal and punk scenes were infested with meth. It was almost impossible to not be involved in it. Frankly, I feel pretty lucky to have lived through the 80's, as it was a dangerous time to be fucking around with shit out there. This record, and Fang in general bring me back to a time when life was really dangerous. Enjoy, and as always say Hi!

  2. Yeah, It's a classic for sure.
Sammy sounds like such a fucking asshole.
Anyone know what happened to the guitarist? He was very important to the bands early sound.
    thank you again!!!!

  4. I know the guitarist started, and ran Boner records... Don't know what he is up to now.

  5. Absolute classic. I saw Fang twice in Salt Lake City at the old Indian Resource Center and they will always be one of my favorite. It is nice to find a blog that reaches back to classic stuff. We need more blogs that post TSOL, Adolescents, CJ's, Fear and the like. Great stuff.

  6. I ran into to Sammy a few years after he was shot in the stomach. (He was shot in Chicago I think?) He had cleaned up and was doing electrical work. I know a lot of people hold bitterness for what he did but I was able to crawl in his head for a few days. From what I gather Dixie ran off with drug money, the drugs and Fang's stash of cash. Sammy freaked and tried to explain what happened to the bikers he was pushing drugs for. They gave him a you or her ultimatum and strong armed him to go with them to find her. The rest is up to your own interpretation. I know this doesn't excuse what he did and even he stated that himself. I did see a tremendous amount of remorse and pain in the guy. He returned to seclusion and I haven't seen him since.

It was a surreal occurrence as the bass player (Joel, I think) turned him into the cops when he ran to Alaska. Sammy's mom ended up beating him up in an elevator during the trials at the court house.

Tom, the guitarist still runs what remains of Boner Records.

The other guys out of the three early lineups I never kept up with. The last two of those line ups recorded the Spun Helga, A Mi Ga Sfasas and Pissed Off Buddha stuff.

  7. Here's a clip of a Fang classic @ Lennon Studios in SF from July 2008. Was @ a benefit for a girl named Spike. The guitarist is Jimmy Crucifix of 80's hardcore legends Crucifix. Also on this bill that night were Verbal Abuse, Bad Manners, The Fuck Ups and a few more I don't recall....
