PERSIAN RISK ridin high 7" (1983)

1.ridin high
2.hurt you

OK, I'm going to see Motorhead on Saturday night, so I figure I'd up something on the blog that was related.
Persian Risk formed in 1979 in England by Phil Campbell who has played in Motorhead and Lemmy now for over two decades. Dudes a total hero. I love both of the P.R. singles that I own.
When I bought this at Strawberry's records and tapes on Wolf Road in Colonie NY twenty some years ago I had no idea what I was in for. I was taking a chance and just loved the back cover photo, and the way the band looked. Dudes were wearing spikes and leather, and looked cool in a 1983 sorta way. I was a die hard Maiden fan, so this wasn't all that far off. It made this pimple faced metal kid happy. The guitar playing is great. Campbell plays and chugs away exactly the way one would want one to in the early metal days with his killer hook riffs, and a solo on "hurt you" that reminds me of some fast Eddie Clark noodles. No wonder Lemmy chose Phil for the Motorhead sound! The main riff in "hurt you" also has a Riot Influence. Cool nwobhm stuff that most metal heads rifle right past when taking the headbanging journey into heaviness.

TOXIC SHOCK s/t 7" (1989)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.black death
2.100 mph
3.to the chair

Alrighty then. This one is an obscure metal gem that came out on the punk rock record label Mystic Records. The label put out a lot of crap, but also some pure classics such as RKL, Aggression, Ill Repute, White Pigs, Dr. Know, etc. The label was owned by this old dude named Doug Moody who would record bands in his studio, then put their music out on vinyl. He had a pretty bad rep with some of these bands due to him not paying royalties, and over pressing records. He really had nothing to do with punk other than actually recording this stuff, and paying to put it out and distribute it. He is still alive and in his late 70's.
At any rate towards the end of the labels "career" Mystic decided to try an put out some metal. This band was supposedly from West Mystic CT. though no one I know has ever heard of them playing shows, or anything else for that matter. The 3 song ep is pretty raw sounding, yet standard for the time underground metal, with growling type vocals. I thought of the ep after seeing Villains last night, as the vox were sorta similar. The second song is an instrumental that isn't even close to 100 mph, but is kick ass anyway. This is the type of record that you can prolly find for cheap if you keep your eyes peeled. The production is super low endy and raw with lots of bass.
Bought mine on yellow vinyl at Worlds records in Albany 1990.

CROM & VILLIANS in Brooklyn NY

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
By cryptocomx, shot with DSC-S700 at 2008-09-14

Villains played first. Dudes are a perfect mix of a few styles of aggressive underground metal from Brooklyn NY. I could hear everything from Destructor, Pagan Altars, Poison, and even some Venom at parts. One of my favorite bands I've seen in years. The drummer was a fucking left handed mad man. Total True metal in 2008 without it being cheesy, and with members knowing exactly what what they are doing, and what they want to sound like. I Picked up the "Drenched in the poisons" LP on Nuclear war now last night, shit is amazing. This is the kind of stuff I'd put out in a heart beat if given the chance.

Crom are sick, drunk and sloppy(and from California). Perfectly blending metal and powerviolence antics That kept me bobbing my head throughout the entire set. Lots of beer being spilled, , lots of Slayer riffs, lots of silliness indeed. Both the bands LPs are filled with tons of samples, loops, and metal fun that of course didn't happen live. If they could figure out how to do this, or I'd seen it, I'd be 100% stoked on them live. Glad I saw them, the new LP rules..

R.I.P. Witchunter

According to Sodom's web site the bands original drummer, Chris Dudek (a.k.a. Witchhunter), passed away yesterday (Sunday, September 7). No further details are currently available. He was still pretty young.
My friend Ron played me some of the bands newest LP, that Witchunter appeared on... total bummer. I grew up listening to Sodom, and being shocked at the extreme sound of "sign of evil" when it came out. Witchunter was part of the rawness that helped to fuse the bands early sound.

W.D.M. freedom of music 7" (1988)

1.freedom of music
2.different battlefields
3.confuture
4.communist disease

One of the early Finnish bands i can recall hearing early on in my youth. My buddy Louis made me a Finnish tape with their 1984 ep "democracy?" on it. That record is a total punk rager for sure. They didn't do much more than two or three 7"s that I know of. Kind of an obscure band.
When I later saw this ep I grabbed it up. Actually I've grabbed it up twice. Totally dismissed by most elitist punks due to its metal influences, I love this record, and find it to be a refreshing crossover record from the time period. To hell with the haters, this brings me back. Lots of cool soloing mixed with political lyrics and mostly fast drumming. The record almost reminds me of later Suicidal in some strange ways... can't put my finger on it exactly. My favorite sing is diff battlefields, great guitar riffage.
This is the kind of record you can find in used bins for really cheap. I prolly over paid for this my second copy at WFMU record convention for a mere $3 a few years ago. There are prolly three of us out there who care about this one... fuck it. Great lyrics!

DOM DÄR stench of decay 7" (1991)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.revolution
2.stench of decay

Dom Där were from Sweden, and put out some great records(the first one in around 1983 I think). This is the bands 3rd release. On this ep The band plays a sludgy doomy crust style of hardcore/metal. Its really fucking heavy and depressing sounding. I'd imagine anyone who loves the likes of Amebix, or Hellbastard will go bonkers for this shit. Only two songs on this ep, but they are each almost 6 mins long. The packaging is really cool as the Sleeve folds out into 6-panel poster.
Got this one under the recomendation of a buddy/friend Brian who plays in Dropdead. I recall playing a show with his band, and was going through records at Neil Robinson's record table at abc no rio, and Brian commented on me needing to buy this record, so I did. Thanks Bri.

3.Gonka
4.Tochka Otscheta (instrumental)
5.Doroga V Nikuda
6.Metall
7.Rock N Roll
8.Tsvetnoy Son (instrumental)

Again, this one is for the metallers that read this blog. If your a punk, I can almost guarantee this ones is not for you. Sorry.
The band was from Russia, and the name translates into "August". August formed in 1982, and were always dealing with problems with the USSR government. The Soviet government scrutinized and kept music within certain boundaries of content and artistic creativity.
The music on This LP is a killer attempt at early power metal, that has gone on to influence the likes of Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Nitro, etc. This stuff is over the top with melodic, fast, operatic, classical influenced riffs. If you hate key boards, you'll hate this. Like I said this stuffs not for everyone, and has had people in the metal scene scoffing at them for years. I love it, its over the top and obscure as hell. If you see this bands stuff grab it up, its rare as hell, and barely made it into the States at all.

SOLDIER 7" ep (1982)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.Sheralee
2.Force

Soldier were another of the the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands that was plowing through Britain with little or no popularity in the early 1980s. I'd guess it was partially do to the drummer was the singer, that was sort of a no no for metal bands at least(unless you were Exciter). They were on Heavy Metal records with the likes of Holocaust, Witchfinder General, etc. When I think of Soldier I think of bands like Sabbath, Kiss, Holocaust, Crucifixtion, etc. The song "Sheralee" has that "paranoid" riff that just makes you think, fuck yeah, Sabbath. There are some awesome double leads going on here that remind me of "number of the beast" era Maiden mixed with the hard rocking sound of say Riot.
This stuff is pretty mellow for the most part, Not really one for the punks, though the cover looks kinda punk.
As a kid growing up in the metal scene, I didn't really savior these singles like I should have. I looked at them as pretty disposable ways of deciding if I should search out the bands full length. Many of these records ended up as frisbees, ash trays, and weapons to throw at family members. Luckily this one survives. Below is a postcard that came with the ep.

This is a great find from my tape trading days, with other like minded people from around the globe in the 1980's. It was seriously so cool to trade unknown underground punk and metal bands music with people from other places back then. It was a real connection, and took a serious amount of effort to find these people, and to get the trading to begin. It was cool to think about the fact that there was some German guy sitting in Berlin or some place, who was as obsessed with true underground music as you might be, and that he/she was taping you some band you'd never heard from their region of the world. Looking back, I'd never have guessed that we would be where we are now with technology, the internet, etc. It really has made things like tape trading virtually instinct.
Inferno were of course from West Germany... yup back then East Germany was part of Russia, and the two had not become unified again yet.
Inferno were one of the fastest, loudest, rawest bands from that part of Europe. Its easy to see that both Japanese and Swedes later stole parts of their noisy sound and made it part of their own. The band did a slew of great releases, one of the LPs can be found here in my blog, and the most famous release is the Execute split on Pusmort records. I can recall getting this tape, and just listening to it over and over, wishing that I could understand the lyrics, yet knowing the lyrics were about the same bullshit that I was feeling everyday back then.
I did not include all the songs from this tape, as there were countless jams, and 16 seemed to be enough to throw on here. The stuff sounds pretty awesome considering the tape is over 20 years old. Enjoy.

BATTLEAXE burn this town LP (1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Ready To Deliver
2.Her Mama Told Her
3.Burn This Town
4.Dirty Rocker
5.Overdrive
6.Runnin' Outta Time
7.Battleaxe
8.Starmaker
9.Thor Thunder angel
10.Hands Off

This one ain't for the punks...Some truly amazing New wave of heavy metal from New castle England. The band started out as Warrior and in around in 1981 changed their name to Battleaxe and released a 7" that was also called "burn this town". That is a really tough and expensive single to obtain. What first attracted me to this melodic, yet heavy record was the amazing cover art. The band was embarrassed about it, but somehow let it still come out. Made me buy it... I love the cheese, so bad its really good.
I think if you dig the likes of Holocaust, and maybe early Manowar or Anthrax(fistful era)you'll be blown away by this obscure gem. The production is great, and as I stated earlier, the music is catchy in that Holocaust metal way. Nothing spectacular happening with the vocals, they do what they need to do. Not many high pitched girl screaming here.
I recall hearing this one at my guitar teacher Henry Macfarren's house. He played guitar in a metal band called China White. I was in love with the song "her mama told her", so it was a song I attempted to twang along with for a few months. Skipping school, and trying to figure out bad metal riffs, that was my life. To this day, the song still brings a tear to my eye. Also hooked on the last song, "hands off". Total Tygers Of Pan Tang meets Nugent man.. Fuck yeah.

FOURTEEN OR FIGHT/THE REPOS split 7"

2.aggressive collector
3.combo amp a go go
4.godless America
The Repos
1.no control
2.one last time
3.fugitive family 2
4.ha ha hardcore
5.alright??!
6.fast decline
7.hollow trees

Okay I put this record out a few years ago. Usually I stick with older stuff on the blog, but I'm pretty proud of this out of print red slab of wax. Both sides sound pretty fucking old any ways.
Fourteen Or Fight were born from the ashes of Chicago's MK Ultra & Charles Bronson. I was familiar with the bands demo because of my tight relationship with then bassist Jon "Jack" Arrends. These guys played pulverizing hardcore punk that went further back into punk roots then either of the mentioned ex bands that these guys were in. Not really thrashy or powerviolence influenced at all... straight up 80's hardcore with a heavy East coast influence.
The Repos I was exposed to by my old room mate Mark McCoy who played me the bands demo. I was pretty blown away, and heard the strong Septic Death influence, mainly in the vocals.
A few years went on when I got a call from Mark telling me that the bands needed help with this split, as they were planning on originally doing it themselves, but could no longer afford it. I jumped at it, as the 14 Or Fight guys were good friends, and I was planning to release an LP buy them(that was recorded, and never came out). I did 1000 of these bad boys, and its been long out of print. Hope you dig it.

PUTRID MASS stripped by flesh demo (1992)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Lacerating necropsy
2.........
3.burrowing thru
4.horribly disfigured
5.little remains

I was pretty into the death metal, and black metal scenes in the early 90's. Was buying everything, and going to see great shows in the NY area. I think the over production of the stuff is what got me to move on and forget about the scene. Everything started sounding completely dogmatic.
Putrid Mass were from the mid west(some place in Michigan I believe). I got turned onto them by the vocalist of my grind band at the time (Monster X). John our singer was into some pretty cool shit, and would tape trade metal/noise demos from all over the world. I ended up with this one.
I think the shitty raw production is what attracts me to this still to this day. It's not about digital sounds and triggers... just straight up gore core. We actually used to jokingly call them Putrid mess, because of the rawness. Black metal fiends will dig this for sure...
To my knowledge the band only diid one other demo, with no proper releases... a true underground band for sure.

JAGUAR axe crazy 7" (1982)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Axe Crazy
2.War Machine

Just look at this cover art... so minimal, yet so brutal and aggressive looking.
Jaguar were yet another of the amazing yet sorta obscure New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands from back in the day. The band got their start in 1979 playing the pub circuit but They never really got big in the U.S.
I was always in love with the "power games" LP, but have a severe love for axe crazy, as it never made it on any of the bands LP's. I recall be sorta shocked a few years ago in hearing that Supposedly Jaguar were Neat records biggest selling ep. They did have a commercial feel to them, but also could bang out some fast ones. If you dig Axe crazy from this ep, you'll love the power games LP that came out the following year. War Machine was a song from their 1980 demo that they re did for the 7". Starts off melodic, with acoustic guitars, but kicks in pretty good. You can hear some early Di'anno Maiden in this one... I mean note for note.
Again, I collected some of these metal 7"s as a youngster in high school, but my mother tossed some out, I also tossed some out when I was going through my anti metal phase. Don't worry, it only lasted a year or two (when I discovered punk). At any rate its had me re buying the stuff for the last few years.
If you love the first two Maiden records, This Jaguar ep will not disappoint.

8.Living For Memories
9.Rock + Roll
10.Stay Away
11.Fra Diabolo

This is this U.K. bands third full length. The band was playing the nwobhm when most metal bands were still being toilet trained, as they had originally formed in 1976. In some aspects it boggles my mind that the band wasn't able to do any real type of progression between all their early records, in another aspect I can sorta respect that. You won't be able to listen to this album with out comparing the vocals to both Rob Halford, and King Diamond. Lots of high pitched notes screaming about sorcery, satan, & dragons here. Musically it has parts that remind me of early Scorps(in trance era, specially the tune "rock n roll"). I've had this record forever on vinyl as it was a high school sweetheart of mine, but I just scored this copy of it on picture disk, and I think it looks really cool.
I've been on a Witchfynde kick lately probably due to me loving this style of metal a lot again these days, but also because I'll be seeing the mighty Judas Priest in 10 days, and like I said vocally these guys remind me of stuff like that. Listening to this record always gives me a feeling of solid nostalgia. Enjoy.

This is one of the greatest japanese 7" masterpieces ever! In 1987 I had little knowledge of what was happening in the Japanese punk hardcore scene. I was still digging crossover, and lots of silly straightedge stuff.
By 1989 my friend Louis Jakobs was blasting this shit for me on a daily basis. At first I had no understanding or love for the stuff, but after several mixed tapes, and him blasting Japanese hardcore from his little red Toyota truck I became hooked. By the time I started looking for these releases, they were already hard to find. Japanese stuff did not sit on store shelves for long(if you were lucky to know a store that even sold it). The only store I could find any of it at was Albany's Erl records. When Louis decided he'd had enough, he dumped his collection at a store out in NJ that was co owned by Charles Maggio. The stuff they bought from Louis was insane....practically every Japanese release from the 80's. When Louis moved to Jersey, he would come back and visit frequently, one day he brought this record to me, and told me to enjoy it. Dude was awesome...this record is god! Enjoy...comment please.

RkL were one of the most important bands to me at a certain point & time in my life. The time was around 1986, when I was 19 years young, screwed up on anything that could get me off, and punk rock as fuck! The music, the lyrics, the artwork all spoke to me in ways other bands or music never had. I lived and breathed this shit.
I can recall seeing these guys play the Farm, the Stone, the Mab, the On Broadway, Ruthies Inn, shit... even the Oakland Omni. It's So depressing to think about the fact that two of the dudes are now dead from Drugs. Both Jason, and Bomer died a few years ago...a tremendous loss of life.
I'd hung out with these guys on Haight Street, ate at the soup kitchen with them, drove around in the rkl van looking for drugs and a gig, and even had a chance to try out as a bass player for them. To see this band of young kids perform in the mid 80's sent shivers down my spine at the time. They were all over the stage, and doing amazing jumps in the air while playing flawlessly.
I'm one of these Rkl fans with a tattoo, and who still believes in the first 3 records being equally as awesome as the next one. I really miss these guys, and those times. This post makes me sad, but at the same time really makes me remember my friends like Zoran, Kurt, Kenny, and Michael Roy. Hope you dig this.

These guys were a Pretty awesome, obscure and overlooked thrash metal band from Germany. The back cover was totally corny looking, and you almost wouldn't be able to tell how awesome they were based on some bad mustache's, and the spandex outfits. Dudes almost look like the little bros of the Scorps. None the less this shit is fast, and raw thrash. I was obsessing over German thrash metal, and hardcore during the late 80's. No idea why (well, it prolly had something to do with Destruction, and Sodom).
This is one of the first records I ever bought at Erl records when I moved back to Albany from S.F. How could I go wrong, it was $3.99. Dave the owner back then, would allow you to drink in the store, smoke in the store, etc. It was a great place to gather together with buddies, talk about music, and drink some Jagermiester. He didn't really dig metal, so anything he got in used, was cheap! This store was one of my all time favs.

SACRIFICE crest of black demo 7" (1986)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.friday nightmare
2.warfare

Lets face it, there was a band named Sacrifice in every shit town back in the day. In the 1980's very little was known about the Japanese metal scene to so many of us here in America. To most of us the extent of what we had heard via metal from the great country was that of Loudness(a melodic power metal band who gained some success in America in the 1980s). Sacrifice were the exact opposite of that, they played a brutal and hellish brand of Venom styled metal that was raw, chunky, and evil sounding. If I'd heard this in 1986, I'd have been floored, and probably dwelved harder into searching for some heavier metal from Japan back then. Unfortunately I did not hear this until around 1989 or 1990. Again my buddy Louis (luke)turned me on to this 11 min demo tape. He'd blast this back to back with the likes of Gism, Gauze, and SOB. The band later released the "crest of black" LP. Many loved it, but to so many of us the rawness of the demo is what helped to make the band so mind blowing. The crude drawing, graphics and artwork were magically diy.
Recently I found a 7" ep boot of this classic demo. Its supposedly limited to 100 copies. Enjoy.

V/A-HARDCORE REALITY tape (8/14/1982)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

By cryptocomx at 2008-06-22

I'm Just back from my honeymoon, and wedding & figured things were slow on here for long enough...
This is a random tape compilation that was hand made and traded with/ for famed photographer Glen Friedman by the mighty punk artist, and Septic Death vocalist Pushead back in 1982.
These were the days when finding fast aggressive hardcore could be a chore. It took becoming pen pals with people world wide, , scowering every zine that one came in contact with for info. Of course trading tapes was an essential, and a great way to stay on top of, and finding newer stuff. I would read everything from early Flipside, to Ripper, Suburban voice, metal maniacs, mrr, hardtimes, etc in hopes to discover a new band, or come in contact with someone from another country or state. I'm not sure how this actual tape started making the rounds, but it's cool that it did. Listening to this, one can see/remember how amazing and pissed off the hardcore scene was in its early days. This was real. It was about being picked on by jocks, rednecks, and the rest of society. It was about being looked down on for what we looked like, it was about Ron Reagan and the cold war. If you were a punk/metalhead in these early days, you might not find work, if you did, you were prolly a dishwasher. Punk hardcore was about so much that attracted me to these early days of being a misfit in society. This tape compiles everything from some of the more popular of the punk bands of the time, to some obscure gems as well. Enjoy, and as always please comment.

CONFRONTATION -1989 demo 7" (1991)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Confrontation were a Southern California grind/crust band from the late 80's who broke up in the early 1990's. The band featured Todd, The bass player that went on to play in the cult band Dystopia. This stuff is pretty brutal, and more on the crust side of hardcore & metal. Metalheads will love this shit... Its raw as fuck. This record is the actual bands first demo from 1989, remixed then put to vinyl. The ep came out on Draw Blank, a label run by two members of Infest.
I ended up with this totally by mistake. I'd ordered records from the label in the past, and never gotten them...duh, yeah Infest records of course. I would continually order records and shirts from these guys, and NEVER get anything back. Must have happened at least 3 times, after seeing adds in MRR. I was a fuckin born sucker for Infest. Finally after writing some pretty pissed off letters to Draw Blank, they sent me this ep, telling me that the Infest record I ordered was out of print. I was pretty bummed out, and prolly listened to this once and filed it away due to my Infest disappointment. Took me a few years to dig this back out to give it another chance under my buddy Ben Barnett's recommendation. Its def not infest but is still a great record.

I first saw AF in around 1985 in Albany with Youth Of Today, and Albany Style. They were supposed to tour with GBH, but GBH bailed or something. I remember walking into the Washington Ave VFW as they were sound checking to Metallica's Seek & destroy. I was blown away before the band even played the show. They shredded that night with Roger just leaping all over the stage. Another year or two later some German friends I knew and who were staying with me wanted to see AF at the stone, so we all went. The band took the stage, and started with the pledge of allegiance... I was like, ugh... the Germans were getting weirded out as well. Suddenly a bunch of Skins in the front of the stage started seig heiling Roger and the band, it went on for a few mins, about 50 bone headed skins stomping around, goose stepping & acting as though AF were a full blown nazi band. Finally Roger started yelling at some of the skins in the front, telling them that "we are not a fucking nazi band", "I'm fucking Cuban"! I have to give it to him, to have the balls to take on and confront these idiots was cool to hear, I really didn't expect it. The band pounded out some old songs, plus lots from this LP including Iron Cross's "crucified", barely stopping between songs.

INFERNAL HEIRARCHY s/t 7" (1993)

Alrighty then...
I'm getting married next Sat in Hawaii, so I've been ripping lots of stuff to throw on the blog so that June won't be such a dead month, and so that assholes like you will keep checking back.
Infernal Heirarchy were from the south in Greensboro North Carolina. One of the last of the death metal bands I was digging on at the time. I think right around this time period in death metal, the death scene had become very commodified, and over all shitty (sort of the way black metal is nowadays). Most stuff became way over produced. You could hear it in the drums, everything became triggered, and just sounded to technically polished. It was a huge turn off, and quickly had me dumping my death metal collection. Part of the appeal to early death metal was its rawness and certain relation it had to hardcore.
These guys though... even in '93 when all that shit was happening kept with the brutalness of their forefathers.
Like I said I dumped my early death stuff in around 1994-95. Started buying some of it back as of late. This one I remember originally ordering through the mail from this dude Ed who did Rage records in Queens NY. The band I was in at the time was a straightedge grindcore band called Monster X. We were all pretty much into the likes of these guys, Brutal Truth, Terrorizer, Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, etc. Listening to this ep again, I can hear a riff that directly influenced me in some of my early writing with Monster X. Both the songs on this 7" ep are at least 5 mins long each, so def worthy of downloading. Fuck the triggers!

Don't let the bad album cover fool you...
Pic were from the Netherlands, and were early legendary lords of the nwobhm sound. I believe they formed in around 1979-80. When I think of their sound, I think Maiden meets Dio! Yeah, almost that good man. The band influenced U.S. bands, English bands, heavy metal bands from everywhere. Its unreal to me how these guys have sorta been left out of metal (at least in the U.S. scene).
For me, when I think of Dutch music the first things that come to my mind are L'arm, BGK, Picture, & Golden Earing. This stuff is true, die hard heavy metal with great vox, and melodic heavy sizzling guitars. The drums just play hard and steady.
I was on tour in Europe some years ago with the Oath, and I bought a bunch of Picture stuff at some weird flea market in one of the city centers of Holland. Some of this bands records have always been tough to find in the U.S. Record shopping in Europe is amazing. So much metal, so many metal heads... dudes with lots of hair, bad mustaches, and leather vests buying some of the worst hard rock albums of all time. I love it, Long live metal.

This one brings back some really positive memories for sure.
Kids for Cash were from Virginia, and had a strong 7 Seconds sound. I don't think the band did anything else after this kinda rare, and obscure ep. The sound really is melodic and posi. If your a metalhead you prolly won't be digging on this one "dude".
I ran into this ep totally by mistake in around 1987. I was home in Albany for Xmas or something from S.F., and had randomly heard a radio show by these two dudes on Siena College radio (88.3 WVCR). They played an entire side of the ep, then went on to inform me, the listener that the ep was, and had been sitting at Worlds records for a while, and that stupid hardcore punks needed to buy it, cos it was good. I borrowed my Moms car, and headed to the record store to see multiple copies of this(like 20). Back then one rarely thought of buying more than one copy of a record...even if it was only $2.75.
Years later I found out the D.J. on the radio that I had randomly heard was one of the singers of Wolfpack, and went on to become an Albany cop. A few more years went on, and he came into my comic book shop, and sold me a shit load of his punk records. I told him I found it humorous that a cop was selling me punk/hardcore records... He started showing me his tats. A Bunch of lazy crusty punks in the store were like "what the fuck is happening"?

Hello my lovely metalheaded friends!
My Buddy Artie picked us up Priest tickets for August, so of course I've been on a massive Judas Priest listening kick lately. I last saw the band on the screaming for vengeance tour with opening act Iron Maiden in the early 80's.
What does all that have to do with Malice you say? Well, Malice were a VERY, very Judas Priest influenced band from Los Angeles, with the vocalist sounding almost exactly like Halford. That being said, I sorta love Malice for just that reason alone. Sure they looked "gay" with all the eye liner, and spandex, and yeah they missed the nwobhm boat by at least 3 years.... The band formed in 1981, and put out another two records that I know of, this one being the debut, & my favorite. Still don't get why it took them 4 years to get this record out.
So as I've been exhausting all my early priest Albums, I busted this one out to see if it still reminded me of JP the way I recall. It does, and it rules!
I ended up with this record through my high school friend, and band mate Mark Szwarcberg. Mark started hating on all the "cheese metal", and had gotten gung ho into the thrash metal type stuff. He gave this one to me telling me that it was a "poser record". He was sorta right... It was, but it still smokes in a early 80s sorta metal way. If you like Savatage, Armored Saint, and of course Judas Priest, chances are you'll get a hard on listening to this one.
